Owner / Founder: Sandra J. Burgess

Sandy Burgess is a strategic planner, marketing strategist and professional communicator experienced in leadership and management, marketing communications, market research, public relations, corporate communications and journalism.

Sandy earned her Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and her Executive MBA from the Advanced Management Program at Michigan State University. She helped to pay her way through college and gained in-depth knowledge of medical terminology while working as a transcriptionist for a preventive cardiologist.

Long before founding Burgess Editorial Services in 1986 and expanding it into Burgess Strategic Marketing Services in 1996, Sandy demonstrated a passion for working with words. She honed her writing and editorial skills as a staffer on student newspapers in both high school and college, then as a staffer and freelance journalist for newspapers in northeast Ohio and southeast Michigan.

Her career moved into public relations and marketing when she was hired as a writer by William Beaumont Hospital (now Corewell Health™) in Royal Oak, Michigan. By the time she launched her own company nine years later with her former employer as her first client, Sandy was serving as the multi-hospital system’s internal communications supervisor, managing a corporate publications program nationally recognized for innovation and excellence.

Sandy serves on the faculty of judges for MerComm, Inc., an international awards organization “dedicated to defining the standards of excellence in the communications fields.” She has won kudos from delighted clients and dozens of awards for communications planning, leadership, writing and publications management, including the Gold Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators.

She is a member and past board member of the Troy Chamber of Commerce in Oakland County, Michigan. Active in her community, she has served on numerous boards of professional and service organizations at local and national levels, including as presiding officer. She is the volunteer publicist for Amazing Grace Lutheran Church in Warren, Michigan.
